Spoken Fire
is a metaphor for artistic expression
that comes forth from a deeply inspired place
within.
The phrase, Spoken Fire, originates from a poem
I wrote
that became the title of an outdoor sculptural
installation
I created to reside in a bamboo grove in Hawaii.
The piece was inspired by the Japanese tradition
of writing
wishes, often as poems, on little scrolls of paper
and hanging
them in bamboo, on the 7th day of the 7th month
each year.
The festival is known as
Tanabata (Star Festival), based on
a folk tale about two stars who can only meet
one night
of the year across the bridge of the Mily Way.
"The poems
spin in the wind as if lifted by
invisible
spirits...
embers of the spoken
fire..." *
Spoken Fire speaks of creativity potent with the
forces
of passion, beauty, and awareness - occuring in
a unique
moment - a cosmic meeting with destiny, determined
by
courage, infused with spirit.
