Avalon, an extraordinarily gifted and passionate musician who loved to teach and share

his enthusiasm for the piano, passed away in 2004 at age 47. The Foundation for Modern

Music, an educational, non-profit foundation that Avalon established, continues the work

that he began by providing mentorship and grants for young, emerging composers.
